Why he might be annoying:

He did not play football until his junior year in high school/ (‘I didn’t think I was big enough.’)
As a college sophomore, he had to transfer from Louisiana State to a community college for the year due to poor academic performance.
He had a reputation as a trash talker, especially to the New York Giants and their linebacker Sam Huff.
Quarterback Bobby Lane included him on a list of pro football’s eleven meanest players (1964).

Why he might not be annoying:

He had morning and afternoon paper delivery routes to help his widowed mother make ends meet.
He was the first person to play in Louisiana’s high school all-star games in both football and basketball.
He was the first NFL player to rush for 1,000 yards in five consecutive seasons (1960-64).
He was the only player to beat Jim Brown to a rushing title (1962).
He played the entire 1962 NFL Championship Game despite biting his tongue when tackled in the first quarter, leaving him swallowing blood the rest of the game, and suffering a gash on his elbow that required seven stitches at halftime to close.
Huff commented on his performance, ‘Taylor isn’t human. No human being could have taken the punishment he got today.’
He scored the first rushing touchdown in Super Bowl I.
