    Conga player, singer, dancer, and composer
    Member of Dizzy Gillespie's band
    Co-wrote the songs 'Manteca,' 'Tin Tin Deo,' and 'Cubana Be, Cubana Bop'

Why he might be annoying:

    He dropped out of school after third grade.
    He was sent to a youth reformatory at age 13 after several arrests for theft and assault.
    After a successful stint selling the newspaper 'El Pais' on street corners, he was hired by the paper's owner, Alfredo Saurez, as a driver and bodyguard -- and unofficially as a debt collector and 'leg breaker.'
    He usually wore a red scarf to signify his allegiance to Santeria.
    He was shot and killed in a Harlem bar by a drug dealer who he had accused of ripping of him off by selling low-quality weed.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He cowrote 'La Comparsa de los Dandys,' which won first prize at the Santiago de Cuba Carnival (1940) and became a standard at Latin American Carnival celebrations.
    He is considered one of the founders of Latin jazz.
    Gillespie said he was a mesmerizing live performer.
    Gillespie noted about his influence, 'After Chano Pozo, everybody started getting congas.'
