Basketball Player

The Resume

    (October 26, 1934-March 27, 2015)
    Born in Charleston, West Virginia
Birth name was Rodney Clark Hundley
Two-time All American at West Virginia University (1956-57)
    #1 NBA draft pick (1957)
Played for the Minneapolis/Los Angeles Lakers (1957-62)
Announcer for the New Orleans/Utah Jazz (1974-2009)
    Basketball analyst for CBS (1972-74,1978-80)
Received the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Basketball Hall of Fame (2003)

Why he might be annoying:

He was a showboat who acted like he was a Harlem Globetrotter (dribbling behind his back, spinning the ball on his finger and rolling it down his arm, taking hook shots from the free throw line, hanging off the rim of the basket while waiting for passes).
He went from averaging 24.5 points a game in college to 8.4 points in the pros.
He said, 'I sleep all day, party all night and fit basketball games in between.'
He was fined a then-record $1,000 for staying out so late that he missed the Lakers' flight back home.
His pro career was cut short by bad knees.
He was busted for DUI (2002).
He quipped about Ralph Sampson, 'He's the most overrated player since me.'

Why he might not be annoying:

In high school, he broke the West Virginia four-year scoring record in just three years.
He was such a crowd pleaser that the junior varsity team he played on his freshman year often outdrew WVU's varsity team.
He was the fourth player in NCAA history to score 2,000 points.
He hosted a celebrity golf tournament to raise money for the Salt Lake Shriners' Hospital.
He was the first former player to receive the Curt Gowdy Media Award.
Sportscaster Jim Nantz said, 'He's the best basketball analyst I've ever heard.... I can honestly say that broadcasting with him was the one thing I've done that never felt like work.'
