The Resume

    (May 20, 2014-June 11, 2014)
    Aired on Fox
    Starred Matthew Hicks as ‘Harry’
Premise: twelve American women are led to believe they are competing for the affections of Prince Harry
Winning contestant: Kimberly Birch, a social worker from Long Island

Why I Wanna Marry 'Harry' might be annoying:

One contestant later reported that producers kept telling them, ‘Don’t compare it to The Bachelor.’
Fine. We’d rather call it a rip-off of Joe Millionaire anyway.
It’s one thing to imagine that a random millionaire or a washed-up rapper might chose reality TV as a way of finding dates; it’s quite another to imagine that the person fourth in line to the British throne would need to (or that his grandmother would allow him to do it).
Entertainment Weekly wrote that ‘Hicks had both the appearance and personality of Prince Harry’s figure at Madame Tussaud’s.’
Hicks rejected some contestants for not being ‘genuine.’
Birch later revealed that the show brought in a ‘therapist’ (actually a member of the production team) who told doubting Thomases among the contestants, ‘You have to learn how to trust your mind…. It’s not good for you to keep questioning.’
The show was cancelled after four episodes due to anemic ratings.

Why I Wanna Marry 'Harry' might not be annoying:

Hicks beat out 100 other potential faux-Harrys for the starring role.
It was not until the fifth episode that the remaining contestants were openly lied to about Hicks being Harry; until then, Hicks was addressed as ‘Sir’ with dates hopefully making assumptions based on his looks, the castle setting, the staff of servants, the security detail, etc.
’Cosmopolitan’ described the show as ‘horrible in all the right ways.’
The contestants mostly got along well with each other, with five taking a trip together to Las Vegas two years after the show ended.
When the real Harry got engaged to Meghan Markle, Hicks tweeted, ‘Good for him. It’s about time.’
