He and his fraternal twin brother grew up in a coastal sand-and-surf town.
A wakeboarding injury put an end to his professional golf prospects.
He abandoned his college classes – particularly political science and English degrees – with only nine credit hours remaining.
At the suggestion of Sony executives – to avoid confusion with Josh Gracin – he changed his first name to Jake.
For his first four CDs, only ‘Easy Does It’ did not release the title song as a single.
‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night’ ended up firmly in the cross-hairs of bro-country-blasting duo M&T.

Why he might not be annoying:

He regards Alabama and Merle Haggard as inspirations (‘I could go on forever…’).
While recovering from his wakeboard injury, he borrowed a neighbor’s guitar… and never looked back.
Having relocated to Nashville, he gave a demo CD to a clerk at the bank where he opened an account.
All 11 tracks on ‘Startin’ with Me’ were co-written by him and his producer — without the help of the Music City crafters who really knew the biz.
His future wife appeared in the video clip shoots for ‘Eight-Second Ride’ and ‘summertime anthem’ ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night.’
Who would have imagined a spectator at a Kenny Chesney show eventually becoming his opening act?
