The spelling of Slough was changed to Slew as Karen Taylor did not like the spelling of the word.
Following his 1977 Triple Crown victory, he struggled and got tired quickly as he lost to J. O. Tobin in the Swap Stakes.
His first trainer, William H. Turner, was fired by his owners over a schedule disagreement.
He was beaten by Exceller by a nose in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (1978).
Despite being chosen as the 1978 U.S. Champion Older Male Horse, he lost to Affirmed in the Horse of the Year voting campaign.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first horse win the Triple Crown while being undefeated (1977).
He created the 'war dance' pre-race dance routine.
He won the 1977 Horse of the Year Eclipse Award.
He was listed at #9 in the Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century by Blood Horse magazine (1999).
