Why they might be annoying:

They had to billed as Charlatans UK in the US because a 1960s psychedelic band from San Francisco was already using the name Charlatans.
Blunt described their sound as 'like the Spencer Davis Group on E [ecstasy].'
A combination of clinical depression, tensions within the band, and a deteriorating relationship with his wife resulted in Burgess being hospitalized for two weeks (1991).
Rob Collins was charged with armed robbery after driving the car for a friend who robbed a liquor store (1992); although he claimed to be unaware of his friend's intentions until he heard a gunshot from the store, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of 'assisting an offender after an offence' and served four months in prison.
Rob Collins was killed in an auto accident while driving drunk and not wearing a seatbelt (July 22, 1996).

Why they might not be annoying:

After Day and Baker left the band, one of the guitarists considered as a replacement was an Inspiral Carpets roadie named Noel Gallagher. (Whatever happened to him?)
They discovered that their accountant had embezzled £500,000 and failed to pay their taxes (1998).
Burgess noted, 'We were paying huge festivals at the time, but had to forfeit most of the money.'
Brookes suffered seizures onstage (2010), was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and died in 2013 at age 44.
The band has become patrons of the Brain Tumour Charity.
