The Resume

    (August 10, 1958-August 11, 2012)
    Born in Akron, Ohio
Pro record: 53 wins (33 by KO), 6 losses, 2 draws
    WBA World Heavyweight Champion (1982-83)
    Nicknamed 'Dynamite'

Why he might be annoying:

His victory over Mike Weaver to win the WBA title was controversial, since many observers felt referee Joey Curtis stopped the match prematurely.
He celebrated his win by bathing in $20,000 worth of champagne.
He held the title for only a year before losing it to Gerrie Coetzee.
He later said he had trained for the fight on 'cocaine and Jack Daniels.'
He was twice arrested for drug possession (1986,1991).
He spent a decade in prison for assault (1999-2008) after battering fiancee Sandra Cummings.
A Las Vegas police officer testified that Dokes had beat Cummings so badly that it was not possible to recognize her face from her driver's license photo.

Why he might not be annoying:

As an amateur, he won the Golden Gloves Heavyweight Championship, beating future pro title holders John Tate and Greg Page along the way.
He was 'The Ring' magazine's Comeback Fighter of the Year (1988).
His bout with Evander Holyfield (November 3, 1989) was Ring's Heavyweight Fight of the Decade for the 80s.
