Why he might be annoying:

He was twice married.
Many parents of the baby boomer generation relied on his books rather than their natural instincts.
Although many think his name inspired 'Star Trek's' Mr. Spock, creator Gene Roddenberry said it was merely a coincidence.
He is a vegetarian.

Why he might not be annoying:

He attended Yale.
He won a Gold Medal in rowing in the Olympics (1924).
His philosophy on caring for babies was a combination of practical information along with baby psychology and emotional fingerprinting.
His book was translated into 39 languages and sold more than 50 million copies. Only The Bible sold more copies in more languages.
Despite his authority, he urged parents to become experts on their own children.
