    He is often credited for helping R&B music gain popularity with pop audiences.
    ‘Stand By Me’ reached the top ten of the US pop charts twice (1961, 1986).
    He was Chairman/CEO of the ‘Stand By Me Foundation’ which awarded college scholarships to underprivileged children.
