The Resume

    (February 3, 1909-August 24, 1943)
Wrote 'Waiting for God,' 'Gravity and Grace,' 'Simone Weil,' 'Letter to a Priest' and 'The Need for Roots: Prelude to a Declaration of Duties Towards Mankind'

Why she might be annoying:

Her mother had a fear of germs and made Simone wash her hands constantly and would not allow anyone but family members to kiss her.
As a teen, she was known as the 'Red Virgin' due to her political involvement and her fear of sex.
She briefly flirted with Bolshevism and then anarchism.
Because of her Marxist political beliefs, she became a factory worker, but was 'hopelessly inept' at it.
She initially denied the right to convert to Catholicism and converted to nondenominational Christianity instead.
After she converted to Christianity, she would dress up like a monk or a soldier on occasion.
Her metaphysics was an odd blend of Marx, Plato, and Christianity.
When she was hospitalized in 1943, she refused to eat out of sympathy to those suffering in Viche France and starved to death.
Although it is still controversial, her death was apparently a suicide brought about by mental illness.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was an army brat.
Her brother was a mathematical prodigy and was already considered one of the continent's top mathematicians by the time that he was twelve.
    She campaigned for worker's rights.
She was a pacifist, but still fought along side of the republican forces in the Spanish Civil War.
In 1928, both she and Simone De Beauvoir took the entrance exams for the Ecole Normale Superieure, with her finishing number one overall.
She wrote for the French resistance.
Most of her works were published after her death and she became enormously influential.
T.S. Eliot called her 'a woman of genius, of a kind of genius akin to that of the saint.'
