The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He married actress Madeleine LeBeau when he was 40 and she was 17.
He filed for divorce from LeBeau while they were both filming ‘Casablanca,’ which must have made for some awkward moments on set.
He was one of the stars (in the Captain Renault part) of the short-lived attempt to turn ‘Casablanca’ into a TV series (1955-56).

Why he might not be annoying:

He and LeBeau fled Paris after the German invasion and wound up waiting in Lisbon for two months for visas.
They (and 200 other refugees) were stranded in Mexico after discovering that their Chilean visas were forgeries.
They eventually received temporary Canadian passports that let them enter the United States.
The Nazis occupying France used publicity stills of him to illustrate the features of ‘a typical Jew.’
His parents died in a concentration camp.
