He auditioned for seasons 10 and 12 of 'Idol', but failed to make the finals.
He called 'Idol' fans sending him song suggestions via Twitter 'retards'.
Bringing a 'darker' energy to the 'Idol' stage is the quality he felt made him a unique contestant.
Fellow 'Idol' finalist, Jena Irene, asked him to be her prom date.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was part of the rock/soul band, Elijah Hooker, prior to competing on 'American Idol'.
He has incredible stage presence and charisma.
Whether it's hard rock, southern rock, or soul, the guy has a tremendous singing voice.
Despite blowing out his voice earlier in the week, he slayed Led Zeppelin's 'Dazed and Confused'.
