    Born in Gandia, Spain
    Great-grandson of Pope Alexander VI
    Duke of Gandia, Marquess of Lombardy, and Viceroy of Catalonia
    Renounced his titles to become a Jesuit priest (1551)
    Third Superior General of the Society of Jesus (1565-72)
    Canonized by Pope Clement X (1670)

Why he might be annoying:

    His pre-religious diplomatic career hit a snag when he failed to arrange a royal marriage that would unite Spain and Portugal (1543).
    He hid out in Basque country to keep Pope Julius III from appointing him as a cardinal.
    His talents as an administrator kept him from living the life of solitude that he wanted.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a talented composer, displaying a sophisticated contrapuntal style.
    He founded colleges in Rome, Spain, and France.
    he established Jesuit missions in Peru and Mexico.
    He urged rulers in the New World to treat the natives humanely.
    Despite his power (whether as a Spanish noble or a Jesuit leader), he was known for his humility.
