Why Rockford Files might be annoying:

It premiered on September 13, 1974 (Friday the 13th).
Even though Jim Rockford supposedly lived in a trailer, he could somehow afford a really kick ass Firebird.
The make of the Pontiac Firebird would change frequently.
It was known for its frequent and excessive car chase sequences.
The executives at NBC thought the scripts were too funny for a detective drama and ordered that the funny lines be removed. The writers and James Garner refused.
It created the spin-off 'Richie Brockelman, Private Eye.'

Why Rockford Files might not be annoying:

It defied most of the standards in detective dramas and wrote its own rules.
Though Rockford was far from an ideal detective, having a very squalid social life, getting his ass kicked by bad guys and frequently taking the easy way out, it made the character more believable.
It had some amusing recurring gags. Every episode started with the playing of one of Jim Rockford's answering machine messages, which was usually something bizarre.
David Chase got his start as a writer for this series, and went on to create the critically acclaimed HBO series 'The Sopranos.'
Though excessive, the car chases were very well done for a television series.
It ended before it got the chance to jump the shark.
The plots were usually complex and involved a lot of twists and turns.
It was well-known for its clever writing and the likability of its star, James Garner.
Joseph 'Rocky' Rockford ranked #45 in TV Guide's '50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time' (June 20, 2004).
