Why he might be annoying:

    He was a smoker.
    He worked in a sweatshop when he was 12 years old.
    He suffered a nervous breakdown at the age of 18, which rendered him unable to work.
    He earned his 'Black Spider' nickname, due to his tendency to wear an all-black uniform.
    His performance in the 1962 World Cup is remembered for him allowing soft goals, which led to the Soviet Union getting eliminated from the tournament.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is credited with revolutionizing the goaltending position in soccer.
    He wasn't afraid to shout orders at teammates, intercept crosses and run out to meet oncoming attackers during game play.
    He suffered a bout of thrombophlebitis, which led to the amputation of his leg.
    He was awarded the Order of Lenin, which was regarded as the highest honor received by anyone in the Soviet Union.
    As a result of his contributions to Soviet athletics, he was given a state funeral at the time of his death.
