The Resume

    (February 14, 1956- )
    Born in Youngstown, Ohio
Pitcher for the San Diego Padres (1982-87) and San Francisco Giants (1987-89)
    64-57 win-loss record
    3.13 ERA
    One All-Star Game appearance (1983)
Had a cancerous tumor and half the deltoid muscle removed from his pitching arm (October 7, 1988)
Returned to Major League Baseball (August 10, 1989)
Weakened humerus bone snapped while pitching (August 15, 1989)
Cancer returned, eventually requiring the amputation of his left arm and shoulder (1991)

Why he might be annoying:

He joined the ultra-far right John Birch Society.
He and several other born-again Giants were nicknamed 'the God Squad.'
He ignored doctors' recommendations to wait until 1990 to resume pitching.
He re-broke his arm during the Giants' celebration of their victory in the 1989 National League Championship Series.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a left-handed pitcher.
Giants manager Roger Craig said of Dravecky's comeback game (a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds), 'I played in five World Series. I saw Don Larsen pitch his perfect game. But I've never seen a game that had as much drama as that one.'
He said about breaking his arm, 'My reaction wasn't to ask, 'Why God?' I was so thankful He had given me the opportunity to go out on the mound again that even that tragedy couldn't take away the joy I felt.'
He went on to a new career as a motivational speaker and founded Outreach of Hope to offer encouragement and resources to people suffering from cancer and depression.
He will sign baseball cards sent to him and all you need to include is a stamped self-addressed return envelope.
