Why they might be annoying:

    Their moniker came from a magazine article by the Beastie Boys about a man hired to find the classic footwear.
    Because they began as basically instrumental, Corner and Howe recruited Pickering to work on lyrics and live stuff.
    As Corner considered himself to have a more suitable lead voice, Dayton was kicked out before the second CD.

Why they might not be annoying:

    They were inspired by Portishead and Massive Attack.
    ‘Becoming X’ became a Billboard #1 Heat Seeker (a reference to an act yet to make the top half of either the Top 200 Albums or Hot 100 Singles chart).
    Dayton’s exit had a serious impact on their fortunes.
