Why he might be annoying:

    He got his nickname from a teammate saying he looked ‘as ugly as a Mississippi mudcat.’
    He was suspected of throwing spitballs – which he called his ‘cloud pitch,’ claiming it ‘got a little wet from the air.’
    He was suspended without pay for the rest of the season after getting into an argument with bullpen coach Ted Wilks and leaving the ballpark without bothering to tell manager Jimmy Dykes (September 16, 1960).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was two when his father died.
    He received a football and baseball scholarship to Florida A&M, but he had to drop out to help financially support his family.
    He was the first black pitcher to win 20 or more games in a season in the American League (21 in 1965) and the first black pitcher to win a World Series game for an AL team (1965).
    He wrote the book ‘The Black Aces’ (2007) about the 15 black pitchers who have won 20 or more games in a season.
    He and three of the other Black Aces (Ferguson Jenkins, Mike Norris, and Dontrelle Willis) were honored at the White House during Black History Month (2007).
