He and Jerry Siegel began the 'Golden Age' of comic books.
He co-created a character that gives its readers a sense of morality and inspires them to do good.
He and Jerry Siegel were paid $60,000 each for the rights to 'Superman' (1948).
DC Publications went on to turn 'Superman' into a multi-billion dollar franchise.
Warner Communications (DC's mother company) recognized his genius and awarded him a pension of $35,000 a year for the remainder of his life (1975).
