Pictures of him giving his son a bear hug after winning the 1997 Masters is one of the most famous images in golf history.

He is widely credited with instilling Tiger with the mental toughness to win close matches.
He served two full tours of duty in Vietnam.
He was a Green Beret.
He broke the Big 7 (now Big 12) color barrier in baseball for Kansas State, and was offered a contract by the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues.
