    Father of current NASCAR CEO Brian Z. France
    President & CEO of NASCAR from 1972-2000
    Remained part of NASCAR's board of directors until his death
    He sometimes played favorites when dealing with driver disputes.
    He had a sailor mouth.
    He was a college dropout.
    Like most NASCAR members, he was a registered Republican.
    He was a big reason why NASCAR went commercial during the 1980's and 1990's.
    He battled cancer for seven years until his death.
    He passed away during the running of NASCAR's Autism Speaks 400.
    He served in the United States Navy.
    His final public appearance came at an informal hot dog dinner held in his honor.
    He worked concessions and was a valet at the original Daytona Beach road course.
    When Daytona international Speedway was being built, he worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week over a period of 13 months performing very menial tasks.
    He was a motorcycle racer for several years before becoming the head of NASCAR.
    The International Motorsports Hall of Fame describes his appointment as President of NASCAR as probably the most significant event in the history of the sanctioning body, other than the founding of NASCAR itself.
    He was well loved by virtually everyone in the NASCAR community.
