Armstrong allowed the US military to use his FM technology patents royalty-free for the duration.
Communication giants led by RCA lobbied at FCC to hinder his FM technology because they invested too much on AM radios.
RCA, CBS, Sylvania and Motorola infringed his FM patents.
His wife sued RCA, CBS, Sylvania and Motorola for patent infringement and collected $10 million.
He was inducted posthumously to the Consumer Electronics Association Hall of Fame (2000).
A U.S. postal stamp was issued in his honor in (1983).
