Outlaw

The Resume

    (August 8, 1929-December 18, 2013)
Born in East End, London, United Kingdom
Participated in the Great Train Robbery (August 8, 1963)
Escaped from prison (July 8, 1965)
Spent over three decades as a fugitive in Australia and Brazil
Voluntarily returned to England and was re-imprisoned (May 7, 2001)

Why he might be annoying:

During the Great Train Robbery, driver Jack Mills was struck over the head with an iron bar. Mills never returned to work and never fully recovered.
While married to his English wife, he impregnated his Brazilian girlfriend. Since Brazilian law prevented the extradition of the father of a Brazilian citizen, he was then able to live openly.
As a convicted felon, he could not work under Brazilian law, so he supported himself by selling t-shirts, coffee mugs and other items with his image in tourist traps.
His Brazilian son, Michael, joined a successful boy band, A Turma do Balao Magico ('The Magic Balloon Gang').
Although he said his reason for returning to England was his desire to 'walk into a pub as an Englishman and buy a pint of bitter,' many suspected that his mounting medical bills were the real motive.
The tabloid The Sun flew him to England in a private jet and paid him and Michael 20,000 pounds plus expenses for exclusive rights to their story.

Why he might not be annoying:

No guns were used during the Great Train Robbery.
He was a minor participant in the Great Train Robbery but became the most famous of the robbers.
He sang on the Sex Pistols' 'No One Is Innocent' (1978) and Die Toten Hosen's 'Carnival in Rio.' (1991)
A team of ex-military personnel, possibly acting on behalf of the British authorities, attempted to kidnap him and bring him back to England, but were stopped in Barbados (1981).
Jack Slipper, the Scotland Yard detective who investigated the robbery, said, 'I admit he's a likable character – the sort of person whose company I'd enjoy if we met, say, on holiday.'
