He talked to the baseball before pitching.

He had a failed come back attempt with the Boston Red Sox in the early '80s.
Why he might not be annoying
He posed on a Sports Illustrated cover with Big Bird from Sesame Street.
He offered to landscape the mound on occasion.
He got his big break after the normal starting pitcher got the flu.
