The Resume

    (December 28, 1926-August 19, 2013)
    Born in Caruthersville, Missouri
    Jazz and soul singer
Recorded the albums 'Take One' (1959), 'Gee Baby, Ain't I Good To You' (1959) and 'This World Today Is A Mess' (1972)

Why she might be annoying:

Early in her career, she was billed as 'Little' Donna Hightower.
She was much bigger in Europe than America. ('The audiences in America don't generally pay attention like they do overseas.')
Her song 'If You Hold My Hand' was a finalist at the World Popular Song Festival, but was disqualified for not following the Festival rules (1971).
She tried to jump on the Eurodisco bandwagon in the late 70s.

Why she might not be annoying:

    Her parents were sharecroppers.
She was discovered while working in a diner by a 'Chicago Defender' reporter, leading to club dates and a record contract.
When Decca Records asked her to change her name because it was too long, she replied, 'Well, it's got the same number of letters as Ella Fitzgerald.'
'This World Today Is A Mess' sold over a million singles in Europe.
When she was 80, another singer said, 'I think she could still go on tour and blow people away.'
