    He sat out the first quarter of the 1991-92 season, as he was involved in a contract dispute with the North Stars.
    He captained the North Stars to the Stanley Cup Finals, but isn't officially recognized by the NHL, as Curt Giles was the official team captain that year (1991).
    He was the second of three players to serve as the Stars team captain during the strike shortened 1994-95 season.
    He played on three different teams during the 1996-97 season, retiring one career game short of 1100.
    He once fought Wayne Gretzky in a hockey game.

    He spent the bulk of his playing career in the state of Minnesota, as a member of Roseau High School, the University of Minnesota and the North Stars.
    He was a member of the U.S. Olympic Gold Medal Ice Hockey Team, best known as the 'Miracle on Ice' (1980).
    He was the first recipient of the Hobey Baker Award (1981).
    He was the first American born player to record a 100+ point season in the NHL.
    He was the first player in NHL history to win a Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold Medal and NCAA National championship in his career.
    He was widely considered one of the first American born stars to play in the NHL.
    He scored the Stanley Cup clinching goal for the Devils, which sealed the franchise's first Stanley Cup championship (1995).
