He was probably the geekiest-looking player to ever be in the NBA.
He wore goggles with thick black horned rims.
He also had a mullet and a bushy mustache.
He was hammered by Kevin McHale while trying a lay up during an NBA Finals game and stumbled when he tried to retaliate.
He was cut by the team that drafted him, the New York Knicks.
He averaged just 5.2 points per game.
He only coached the Lakers for 45 games before he was replaced by Phil Jackson.
He portrayed a basketball coach in two episodes of '7th Heaven.'
Why he might not be annoying
He was part of four Lakers championship teams.
Chick Hearn called him 'Superman,' due to his resemblance to alter-ego Clark Kent.
He was known for his strong blue-collar work ethic.
He has a cult following among Laker fans and sports geeks.
Though the Lakers kept releasing him as either a player or coach, he was always invited back.
He had Lasik eye surgery, which means we won't see those nerd glasses again.
