    Portrayed Sylvia Lean in 'Knot's Landing' (1986-87)
    After several unsuccessful auditions for Broadway roles, she supported herself posing for crime magazine stills.
    She had a showy part in the Marx Brothers film 'A Night in Casablanca' (1946) that ended up on the cutting room floor.
    She was rejected by Elia Kazan for the role in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' (1951) that earned an Oscar for Kim Hunter.
    She endorsed Chesterfield cigarettes.
    She said her only indulgence was a collection of 35 pairs of Indian moccasins.
    She dated Ronald Reagan.
    She said of her breakout role in Champion, 'The scene I like best was the one on the beach, and apparently a number of fans agreed with me. About half the letters I received asked for a picture of me in my bathing suit.'
    Collier's claimed her career was built on 'a pervasive air of wholesomeness.'
    She told Hedda Hopper, 'I love everything about show business, even the junk.'
    She and her four year old son survived the sinking of the Andrea Doria (1956).
