Why Zagreb, Croatia might not be annoying:

It is considered way safer than most major European cities.
It has long served as a transit to the Adriatic coastline before it became a tourist destination of its own right.
It contains several churches from the 17th Century, most notably St. Mark's Church.
It consistently opposed the regime of Ante Pavelić during World War II despite being used as his seat of power.
It quickly rose in prominence despite the bleak early years of post-independence.
All of its enclosed public buildings have banned smoking.
Its residents love to go outdoors by regularly frequenting parks, galleries, museums, and many other places.
It hosted many concerts of world-famous artists.
