    Population: 115,007 (2010)
    Metropolitan Area: 372,487
    Located in Peoria county
    It is overshadowed by Chicago.
Because of its demographics and location, it is considered one of the most 'average' cities in the nation.
Like many Midwestern cities, it has very cold winters and incredibly hot summers.
    Its residents are called 'Peorians.'
They sought to become the capitol of Illinois, but lost out to Springfield (1837).
The city lost a lot of its relevance after the vaudeville era.
It was one of the premier vaudeville cities in the early 20th century.
Because of its reputation as an 'average' American city, many touring entertainers, politicians, and consumer-focused companies use it as a test market.
Some famous Peorians include Richard Pryor, Sam KinisonSusan Dey, Dan Fogelberg, and the rock band Mudvayne.
It is located along the Illinois River.
It has a vast amount of shopping, dining, and entertainment options for a city of its size.
It was one of the few cities whose economy was not affected by the 2008 recession.
The phrase 'Will it play in Peoria?' originated because it was thought that if an act succeeded in Peoria, it could succeed anywhere.
