Poet

The Resume

    (March 20, 430 BC- )
Birth name was Publius Ovidius Naso
Wrote ‘Metamorphoses,’ ‘Ars Amatoria,’ ‘Amores,’ ‘Heroides,’ ‘Remedium Amoris,’ ‘Medicamina Faciei Femineae,’ ‘Ibis,’ ‘Tristia,’ ‘Epistulae ex Ponto’ and ‘Fasti’

Why he might be annoying:

One critic called his poetry ‘frivolous fluff.’
    He was married three times.
He ran with a wild crowd.
He was banished by Caesar Augustus, reportedly for having sex with the emperor’s wife, daughter and/or granddaughter.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is considered one of the greatest poets of Antiquity.
    He wrote frankly about sex.
Some scholars think he was actually banished because he knew embarrassing secrets about the emperor’s daughter.
He missed his wife terribly after being banished.
    He never saw her again.
