    The Supreme Court of Pakistan issued rulings that he and other military personnel may have been complicit in human rights abuses and political meddling. (2012)
    He was accused of disbanding the Armed Forces Medical Store Depot and overseeing the production and distribution of substandard medicine. (April 11, 2018)

    He steered Pakistan's army towards fighting jihadists amidst accusations of aiding them.
    Several top-level US officials visiting Pakistan have voiced their confidence that he 'knows what he's doing'.
    As leader of the X Corps in Rawalpindi, he led the successful investigation of two back-to-back suicide attacks against Pervez Musharraf, gaining his trust as a result. (December 2003)
    He ordered Pakistan's military officers to withdraw from government positions, paving the way for civilian government in the country. (February 13, 2008)
    He settled a dispute between Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari (2009)
    He led relief efforts in response to floods striking Pakistan and was praised for his effectiveness. (2010)
    Forbes named him the world's 34th most powerful person in 2011 and the 28th in 2012.
