John McCain likely picked her to win over the votes of bitter Hillary Clinton supporters.
Coming from a party that criticized Barack Obama's lack of experience, she had even less experience than Obama.
She was chosen over more qualified and more vetted Vice Presidential candidates.
She is a gun-rights enthusiast who loves hunting.
She is an enemy of the Pro-Choice movement.
With four young children still living at home, some women criticized her choice to accept the Vice Presidential nomination.
She strongly opposes same-sex marriage.
Why she might not be annoying
She is the first Republican female to be nominated for Vice President.
She was second runner-up in the Miss Alaska pageant, where she won the title of Miss Congeniality.
Her youngest son has Down Syndrome.
She graduated University of Idaho.
She upset Alaska's incumbent GOP Governor in the GOP primary by focusing on ethics reform.
Although opposed to gay-marriage, she did help solidify benefits for same-sex couples.
She's not the hardcore, tow-the-party-line candidate that some right-wingers hoped for.
