The Resume

Why Ripley's Believe It or Not! might be annoying:

It was exploitative, seeking out freaks and oddities from across the globe.
Series creator Robert Ripley died shortly after the show began, and it was canceled soon after.
It wasn't revived for over thirty years.
Host Jack Palance was hammy and over-the-top.
Palace had the producers hire his daughter as co-host (nepotism).
The revival with Dean Cain was more like ‘Fear Factor' than like the original versions.
Viewers complained when it subtitled non-native English speakers.

Why Ripley's Believe It or Not! might not be annoying:

It filled the cultural gap left when circus sideshows were banned.
Cult TV fans remember the Jack Palance version as spooky and informative.
The Dean Cain version featured many stories about lingerie-wearing parachutists and other scantily-clad women.
