Born in Stanton Hall, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom

    Poet Laureate (1688-92)
He left Cambridge University without a degree.
He only became poet laureate because John Dryden was fired for being Catholic.
Dryden called him ‘The King of Dullness.’
He may have died by overdosing on opium.
He wrote a play a year for 14 years.
He initiated the tradition of having the Poet Laureate write annual odes for New Year’s and the monarch’s birthday.
