Songwriters

The Resume

Why they might be annoying:

Weil trained as an actress/dancer but gave it up when she started writing songs.
She fell for Mann and hoped boss Don Kirshner would pair the two together, but Kirshner kept pairing her with Carole King.
Mann had a Top 10 novelty hit in 1961 titled 'Who Put the Bomp (In the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp),' making him a one hit wonder.
Mann usually sings on demos, so when Quincy Jones first heard 'Just Once' he stated, 'Barry's really singing his ass off,' not knowing they had secured James Ingram for the demo.
At times they collaborate with other songwriters separately to keep from getting on each other's nerves.
They admit they're 'not much into hip-hop,' though Mann says he likes Eminem's 'Stan' and The Pussycat Dolls' 'Stickwitu.'

Why they might not be annoying:

They've become the most prolific husband/wife songwriting team in music history.
The songs they wrote for The Righteous Brothers started the 'blue eyed soul' movement.
'You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin' was honored as BMI's most performed song of the 20th century (with over 14 million plays).
In perspective, if played back-to-back 24 hours a day, it would equal more than 65 years of continuous airplay.
'Kicks,' a favorite of teenage garage bands, has been recognized as one of the first anti-drug rock songs ever recorded.
Parton's 1977 classic 'Here You Come Again' ushered country crossover hits into pop mainstream.
Besides several Grammys they have amassed an astounding 108 BMI pop, R&B and country music awards.
They have earned 91 Millionaire Awards (signifying radio performances of a million or more plays).
Backed by a five piece band and three back up singers, they opened a limited engagement New York show in 2004 titled 'They Wrote That?' - with Mann singing and Weil narrating how their songs came to be.
