Wrote ‘The Physiology of Taste (1825)’ and ‘The Handbook of Dining (published posthumously, 1865)’

Why he might be annoying:

He was a know-it-all.
His writing style was incredibly wordy.
He participated in eating contests.
He grew up rich.
He took the ‘Savarin’ part of his name just to get an inheritance from his Aunt Savarin.
He jumped sides a lot during the French Revolution, and wound up getting banished.
Some credit him with bringing fondue to America.

He is considered the first food critic.
It’s appropriate that a food expert should come from a town called ‘Belley.’
He could speak and write in six languages.
He was an accomplished violinist.
He worked as a professional magistrate.
He reportedly went turkey-hunting with Thomas Jefferson.
There is a kind of cheese named after him.
His famous quote, ‘Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are,’ is used as a catch phrase on ‘Iron Chef.’
