Premise: A bachelor selects the 'love of his life,' from a group of women wooing him
Why Bachelor might be annoying
The show romanticizes female neediness and male promiscuity.
The ‘Bachelors’ seem to be chosen based on their selfishness, and the female contestants on their stupidity.
On the show, women are encouraged to humiliate themselves to win the affections of a total stranger.
Meanwhile, the ‘Bachelors’ are encouraged to ‘try out’ as many of the women as possible.
It tries to mask its misogyny with cheesy music and soft lighting.
Just about every couple who found ‘true love’ on the show has since broken up (go figure).
Because of its popularity, ABC created an equally appalling spinoff series, ‘The Bachelorette.’
Why Bachelor might not be annoying
The show is popular with naïve, sentimental and/or moronic people.
It gives its ‘Bachelors’ the opportunity to make out and probably have sex with multiple partners with no real-life ramifications.
It features many generically attractive contestants.
