At one point, college football was more popular and many college players didn't want to play in the league.
It took the league 20 years to have all the teams play under the same rules (1923).
The Canadian Football League began to sign NFL players (1954).
The players went on strike (September 20-November 22, 1982).
The league has a substance abuse policy that outlaws some over-the-counter (available to anyone) drugs.
Corey Stringer's family sued the league after his death at training camp.
Football is one of the most dangerous sports and many participants have been severely injured and paralyzed.
Some of the players believe they are above the law.
Why National Football League (NFL) might not be annoying
It is one of the most popular spectator sports in the United States.
The Super Bowl is one of the highest TV rating events.
Advertisers pay millions of dollars to get commercial time during the Super Bowl and air their best commercials then.
Many teams have cheerleaders, the most famous being the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
Most of the players are good role models and contribute time to the United Way.
It uses instant replay to make sure the right calls were made.
