Directed the Neil Young documentary 'Year of the Horse (1997)'

Why he might be annoying:

He looks like he should be in an 80's punk band.
He often casts rappers and musicians in his films.
He refuses to watch his own films, saying that he feels 'uncomfortable' and 'it's like looking over your shoulder.'
His films are depressing.
Despite his success and status he still makes short films.

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated Columbia University with a degree in English.
He was accepted into New York's Tisch School of the Arts without any prior experience in film.
He is an extremely original writer, and still maintains an indie tone in his films.
He cast his friend Chris Parker in his debut film, despite the fact that Chris had no prior acting credits.
He uses strange yet inventive camera work, most notably deadpan shots (no camera movement at all).
He directed film clips for Talking Heads, Big Audio, Tom Waits and Neil Young.
He won the 1993 Golden Palm at the Cannes film festival.
He is modest and is said to be very approachable.
