Why he might be annoying
After receiving an award for his Anti-AIDS campaign, he declared that his country has no homosexuals.
Meanwhile, he is repeatedly accused of mistreating Uganda's homosexual population (with documented cases).
Why he might not be annoying
He lead a successful campaign against AIDS. Since 1986, the campaign reduced the infected population from 28 percent to less than 10 percent.
He said that transmission often occurs through tribal customs like circumcision, because the same knife is used on multiple people.
He unified the Uganda government.
He helped organize the National Resistance Army to rival the abusive Obote regime.
He grew up with poverty stricken nomads who were mistreated.
He vowed to fight against political and social injustices.
He attended the University of Dar-es-Salaam where he studied political science and economics.
