    He once turned off the city radio station when Robert Moses made a speech he did not like.
    He graduated NYU with a degree in Law.
    He acted as an interpreter at Ellis Island.
    He loved the ethnic diversity of the city so much that he learned a few words in most languages so he could communicate with the people in the city.
    He bought a ticket from Chicago to New York and the plane landed at local Newark Airport. This gave him pause and made him force New York to build their first airport.
    During the newspaper strike, he went on the radio every Sunday to read the comics to New Yorkers.
    He is the first mayor elected to serve three terms, and refused to run for a fourth term.
