    His middle name is Ashley.
    Despite having a good 1967 season with a .282 batting average, 20 home runs and 950 putouts, the Tigers were one game shy of winning the AL pennant.
    He was beaten by his teammate Denny McLain for the 1968 AL MVP honors.
    He tied Kid Elberfeld for an AL record for getting hit by pitches with 24 in which it was broken by Don Baylor.
    The Tigers were eliminated by the Oakland Athletics in the 1972 ALCS in 5 games while he recorded a .250 batting average with 3 hits, 1 double and 1 home run in his last postseason appearance.

    He caught the final out that helped the Tigers secure the 1968 World Series victory.
