    Portrayed Sarah Moffatt in ‘Upstairs, Downstairs (1971-73) and the spinoff ‘Thomas and Sarah’ (1979), Harriet Boult in ‘Forever Green’ (1989-92), Harriet Smith in ‘The Ambassador’ (1999-2000), Miss Flite in ‘Bleak House’ (2005), Sue in ‘Mount Pleasant’ (2011-12), and Mrs. Gamp in ‘Dickensian’ (2015-16)
    Portrayed the title role in the London stage (1988), Broadway (1989), and film (1989) versions of ‘Shirley Valentine’
    Also appeared in the films ‘City of Joy’ (1992), ‘Paradise Road’ (1997), ‘Albert Nobbs’ (2011), ‘Quartet’ (2012), and ‘The Time of Their Lives’ (2017)
    Named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama (2001)

    She had a daughter out of wedlock, who she gave up for adoption.
    After appearing in the Doctor Who serial ‘The Faceless Ones’ (1967), she was given a chance to portray the Doctor’s new companion, but turned down the offer.
    She was so surprised at receiving the OBE that when she got a call from 10 Downing Street, she assumed Tony Blair was going to ask for her support in the upcoming election.
    She backed out of doing a nude scene in ‘The Time of Their Lives,’ leaving Francisco Nero to go it alone.

    The British Film Institute declared, ‘Part of Pauline Collins’ appeal is a refusal to be typecast.’
    She was the third actor to appear in both the 60s version of ‘Doctor Who’ and its 21st century reboot, portraying Queen Victoria in the 2006 episode ‘Tooth and Claw.’
    She did a nude scene in the film version of ‘Shirley Valentine’: ‘I was more worried about jumping off the boat, because I’m not a very good swimmer.’
