Celebrity's Relative
    (July 31, 1936-July 23, 1993)
    Resided in North Carolina
    Father of Michael Jordan
Murdered while sleeping in his Lexus after attending a friend's funeral
Body found in a Bennettsville, South Carolina swamp (August 3, 1993)
Body not positively identified until August 13th
Buried at the Rockfish AME Church in Teachey, North Carolina
    He smoked.
There was false speculation that his disappearance had something to do with his son's gambling debts.
Driving home, he grew tired and parked his expensive car at a rest stop to take a nap, leaving the door unlocked and making him an easy target.
His body was so badly decomposed, he was cremated by the coroner's office before positive ID.
This in turn fueled charges of racism as the NAACP stated, 'If this was a white individual with the extensive amount of dental work, the body would not have been cremated in just three days.'
One of the two 18-year-olds charged with the murder was wearing a Michael Jordan T-shirt at the time of his arrest.
Michael Jordan, after mulling retirement (the first one), said his father's death finalized his decision to quit basketball.
He was a life-long sports fan who inspired his son to become an all-around athlete.
He lived long enough to see his son win his first three NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls.
His son dedicated his first championship to him.
He was shot in the chest at point blank range which severed his aorta, killing him instantly.
His killers were apprehended because they used his cell phone which left an electronic trail for the cops to follow.
Both men were convicted of his murder and received life sentences.
After his death, the Michael Jordan Foundation, established in 1989, changed names to the James R. Jordan Foundation in his honor.
