Named by Frank Jeckell after he found an old gum wrapper while looking through a trunk in his attic

Why they might be annoying:

They were studio musicians created by Buddah Records producers.
They needed 10 friggin' members to start with?
Levine split time between the group and another Buddah Records bubblegum group, The Ohio Express ('Yummy, Yummy, Yummy').
Their music was supposed to be the counterpoint to depressing Vietnam War era songs, but they went TOO FAR in the other direction and sounded like pre-Wham!.
Once 1970 came, the bubblegum craze was over and they disbanded, only to reform for the oldies circuit (with 3 original members).

Why they might not be annoying:

'Simon Says' hit #1 on the Billboard charts (1967).
At one point, they toured as the opening act for The Beach Boys.
They incredibly have 5 gold albums to their credit, all cut between 1967-69.
The current line-up knows they're lightweight and don't take themselves seriously, allowing baby boomers to relive a more innocent time in their lives.
They were Al Bundy's (Ed O'Neill) favorite group on Married...With Children.
