His nickname '747' was as a result of him frequently rotating between the Canucks and their farm affiliate in Fredericton.
He foolishly used Ray Bourque instead of Wayne Gretzky in a shootout which cost Team Canada a chance to reach the gold medal game (1998).
Since the 1996 Stanley Cup victory, his teams have fallen to the lower ranked teams, despite having the top seed.
His Nordiques team was upset in the first round by the 8th seed N.Y. Rangers (1995).
He butted heads with Avalanche GM Pierre Lacroix over a contract extension which was a key factor in his dismissal.
It is believed that he orchestrated the bounty that was placed on Steve Moore's head.
He was fired by the Canucks after the team failed to make a playoff appearance (2006).

He guided the Avalanche to a Stanley Cup title in the team's first season in Denver (1995).
He became the second youngest coach in NHL history to record 400 wins.
He left the Canucks among the franchise leaders in wins and games coached.
He worked as a television analyst on Hockey Night in Canada before being named Mike Keenan's replacement at mid-season (1999).
He played in the Stanley Cup Finals during his rookie season.
After his dismissal, he thanked the Vancouver Canuck fans for their support during his stint as the team's head coach.
