    He never lived up to his potential in the NFL.
    During the players’ strike, he crossed the picket line to join the replacement players (1987).
    He suffered anxiety attacks addressing the media.
    He became addicted to crack.
    He gave a 12-year-old girl a massage and touched her breast (1988).
    He pled guilty to indecent behavior with a minor, and was sentenced to one month in prison and registering as a sex offender.

    Running the last leg of the mile relay at the state high school championship, he took the baton in last place, an estimated 40 yards behind the leader, and passed the entire field for victory (1976).
    He was the first NFL player to sign a contract worth more than $1 million.
    He completed rehab.
    He donated his gold medal to the Texas Special Olympics.
    He was inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor (1994)
