Murderer

The Resume

    (November 29, 1859-September 29, 1932)
Subject of 'Fiend: The Shocking Story of America's Youngest Serial Killer' by Harold Shechter
Born and lived in South Boston
At eleven, began torturing young boys
    Sent to reform school (1872)
Released from reform school after a year (1873)
Tortured and killed children Horace Mullen and Kate Curran (1874)
Captured by police and admitted to killing 27 other children
Found guilty of 2 murders and sentenced to solitary confinement for 41 years
Eventually transferred to an asylum, where he died (1932)

Why he might be annoying:

He was a sick and sadistic individual.
He was called 'The Natural Born Fiend'
His heroes as a child were the villains in Western stories, including a general who led the Shawnee Indians in a murderous assault against settlers.
He usually lured young boys with promises of toys or money to a remote location, where he beat and tortured them for sexual gratification.
He enjoyed biting pieces of flesh from his still-living victims.
He danced around to his victims' howling and shrieking, emulating an Indian in battle.
He tried to cut off a boy's penis, but failed and left him with serious injuries.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was born with a harelip and one white, 'dead' eye.
He, like many killers, had a very low IQ, bordering on retarded.
He was abused as a child.
He spent an unthinkable 47 years in solitary confinement with no human contact.
He experienced the shock and wonder of returning to a drastically changed America in a different century, as if he had been frozen in ice.
When he was released, he delighted in all the new technologies he saw for the first time, including automobiles and movie cameras.
Some adults blamed Pomeroy's attacks on the violent dime novels (similar to the situation with video games today,) yet they were made fools of in court when it was revealed that he had never read a single one.
